The show offered comic relief with Baretta's informant/friend, Rooster and a pet cockatoo named Fred. Blake often protested violence on TV, despite the fact that the series contained plenty of hard action. Ironically, in April of 2002, Blake was arrested for the murder of his second wife, Bonnie Lee Bakley. |

Baretta was an unorthodox New York cop in the city's 53rd precinct. Often
seen in jeans and a T-shirt, Baretta always worked alone and in a very
unconventional style. He holed up in a old hotel when he was off the job
and was a master of disguise. He never had a partner and always worked
alone. Because of his rough appearance, Baretta has often able to infiltrate
groups such as motorcycle gangs and even The Mob.
