To Tell The Truth
December 18, 1956 - December 14, 2001

To Tell The Truth was one of the most popular panel shows of the 1950's, 1960's, & 1970's.

The object of the game was to have the celebrity panelists figure out the imposters were and pick the contestant who was telling the truth.

The Game Show actually had 5 different runs between 1956 & 2001.

Bud Collyer hosted To Tell The Truth for its entire CBS run between 1956 - 1968.

To Tell The Truth aired in Primetime on CBS from December 18, 1956 to May 22, 1967.

On June 16, 1962 To Tell The Truth added a daytime version Mon-Fri that aired on CBS until September 6, 1968.

Kitty Carlisle started on To tell The Truth in 1957 and was the main regular panelist.

Orson Bean, Peggy Cass, Tom Poston, & Polly Bergen appeared often on the panel.

The show went to color around 1966 and a new audience participation counted as one of the votes.

When the show ended on CBS n 1968 Goodsen & Todman put the show into syndication for a Mon-Fri weekday run this time hosted by Garry Moore.

On September 8, 1969 To Tell The Truth was back on the air in Syndication, ironically the same day original host Bud Collyer died.

The 1969 version had a Groovy set and was very colorful.

Orson Bean, Peggy Cass, Bill Cullen & Kitty Carlisle were the regular panelists with Tom Poston and Bert Convy appearing as well.

Garry Moore hosted the show up to December of 1976 when Bill Cullen took over.

Joe Garagiola took over as host of the show for the 1977-78 season when Garry Moore announced his retirement.

In 1980-81 To Tell The Truth was back with Robin Ward hosting the show.  This version was quite weak.

To Tell The Truth returned again for the 1990-1991 Season.

Gordon Elliott was the original host but gave way for former Pittsburgh Steeler Lynn Swann and then Alex Trebec.

The 2000-2001 version was the weakest version and only 65 episodes were made.
