FAQ
When did VCRs first become popular?
In the late 1960's the first VTRs (as they were called then) hit the market, but they were so high in price ($3200) they had no impact at all. The blanks were $499 each. Then in 1975 came the first VHS VCRs as we know them today. By 1986 the average household owned a VCR.

Amazon.com seems to be the most popular place to obtain movies & TV shows on video. For older, out of print stuff, Ebay seems to be a good source. For real rare stuff, private collectors or tape traders may be able to help.
We have had good luck with the Pioneer model 533H, this model has a built in hard drive. For a basic unit we like the Sony gx-3030. There are other good models out there so don't go just by our experience.
The website www.tv.com is a good place to start. Typing in the name of the show you want on a search engine + episode guide may bring you to the site that can help you.
Videotape trading is the practice of trading home recorded video tapes of material with other collectors on a nonprofit basis. Each person will record material the other person requests, and then the tapes are "swapped". Generally tapes with content (non-blanks) are swapped tape-for-tape on an equal time basis. If you're new to tape trading, here are some tape trading tips, as well as some additional frequently asked questions about tape trading.
As of late 2006 Maxell High grade blanks were still for sale at Costco Warehouse as well as a number of on-line stores.

I'm
transferring my old Vhs tapes to Dvd, is there a good Vcr available today?
Sony makes a nice Vcr that will playback most old Vhs tapes, model Slv n-750. Jvc also makes a good Vcr for playback of old tapes, model 3902u this is a super vhs machine but plays back regular vhs tapes very well.
