Pittsburgh
Steelers Blog - 2012 Welcome
To our Pittsburgh Steelers Blog for 2012.
Our Prediction for this year is 10-6
We hope the upgrade to the offensive line helps the running
game |
Week 15 Regular Season
Injuries continue to mount as
Willie Colon has surgery on his knee and Cortez Allen is now hurt.
Rashard Mendenhall has been
suspended for one game for not showing up at the San Diego
game. Baron Batch has been recalled to take his place.
Steelers Lose to San
Diego
In another embarrassing loss to
a poor team the Steelers go down to San Diego 34-24. The game
was not even close. Curtis Brown had a horrible game.
The running game does not exist. Offensive line had more
injuries and played poorly.
Week 14 Regular Season
This week the Steelers take on
San Diego, the Steelers need to win the next 4 games to insure a
wildcard in the playoffs.
Ben Roethlisberger will start at
QB. LeMarr Woodley, Mike Adams & Ike Taylor are all out.
Expect Kelvin Beechum back in at right tackle. Cortez Allen
will replace Ike Taylor.
Steelers Upset Ravens 23-20
The Steelers had a great game
against the Baltimore Ravens and beat them on a last minute field
goal.
QB Charlie Batch played well
enough to get the win as he threw a TD pass to Heath Miller to tie
the game and Shaun Suissam kicked the winning field goal as time ran
out.
The defense played well getting
a number of sacks, Ike Taylor left with an ankle injury and was
replaced by Cortez Allen and Curtis Brown played nickel back and a
fine game as well.
Kelvin Beechum played ok and
Dwyer & Redman each had a good run.
A fitting way for Charlie Batch
to end his playing career.
Week 13 Regular Season
This will be a tough week for
the Steelers as they travel to Baltimore to take on the Ravens.
Coach Mike Tomlin has announced
that Jonathan Dwyer will be the starting running back, Mendenhall
demoted to third string.
Mike Wallace will share time
with Emmanuel Sanders.
It's possible Big Ben and Troy
could play along with first round pick David DeCastro. Let's
hope they don't start Kelvin Beechum, he makes Oliver Ross look like
Forrest Gregg.
Steelers Lose To The
Browns 20-14
In one of the most embarrassing
loses in the history of the franchise the Steelers lose to the
Cleveland Browns.
The Steelers had 8 turnovers, 5
fumbles and 3 interceptions. All 4 running backs fumbled, only
Chris Rainey had any success.
The defense played well but gave
up a 15 yard touchdown run when Casey Hampton got blown off the line
of scrimmage.
Lawrence Timmons had another top
notch performance, he should make the Pro Bowl.
On offense Heath Miller and
Emmanuel Sanders looked good. Mike Wallace & Plaxico
Burress were non existent, Mike Wallace is nothing without Antonio
Brown.
Mike Adams went off with an
injury which didn't look good, Chris Rainey also left the game with
a foot injury.
Week 12 Regular Season
This week the Steelers take on
the Cleveland Browns, a game they should win but I wouldn't count on
it.
Charlie Batch will start at QB,
he will be backed up by Brian Hoyer. Plaxico Burress was
signed to the roster Tuesday. Marshall McFadden & Baron
Batch were waived.
Steelers Lose To Ravens
13-10
This was a game where neither
offense played real well. QB Byron Leftwich scored on a long
run after avoiding a defender. Steelers defense played well
especially Keenan Lewis & Casey Hampton.
More injuries cropped up as
Issac Redman, Ziggy Hood, Jericho Cotchery & Byron
Leftwich all sustained injuries.
Week 11 Regular Season
This week the Steelers take on
arch rival Baltimore without Ben Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown.
Byron Leftwich will start at QB
and Emmanuel Sanders will start at wide receiver/
Rashard Mendenhall is available
for this game and Ryan Clark has been cleared to play.
Steelers win in OT over
Chiefs
The Steelers come out on top as
they edge the Kansas City Chiefs to improve their record to 6-3.
Ben Roethlisber left the game
with a shoulder injury and headed to a hospital for treatment.
Ryan Clark also was injured at
the end of the game.
Lawrence Timmons was the star of
the game as he made an interception in OT.
Byron Leftwich was
completely ineffective as was Redman & Dwyer.
Week 10 Regular Season
Its a Monday Night Game vs the
Kansas City Chiefs, a chance for Todd Haley to get revenge on the
team that fired him.
This week Emmanuel Sanders got
fined $15,000 for faking an injury and the team fined $35,000.
Ben Roethlisberger and his wife
are expecting their first child soon, it may arrive during the
Baltimore Ravens game, if that happens Ben announced he would be
with his wife. This has sparked some controversy in the media.
Injury update for Monday Nights
Game...Besides Troy, Gilbert, Sylvester and Antonio Brown,
Mendenhall and Chris Carter are questionable.
David Gilreath has been
activated to the active roster, Ta'Amu has been released.
Steelers Beat Giants
24-20
Despite a really poor officiated
game the Steelers beat the New York Giants 24-20. The
officiating was so bad it almost looked like the game was fixed.
Issac Redman had a big game
rushing for close to 150 yards.
Antonio Brown went down with a
sprained ankle that will probably keep him out a week or two.
The defense played well enough
to stop Eli Manning & the Giants running game.
Keenan Lewis & Will Allen
are playing very well.
Week 9 Regular Season
This week the Steelers face
defending Super Bowl Champs the New York Giants in an away game.
This will be another challenge for the Steelers defense as well as
the offensive line, lets hope Dwyer gets the start.
Steelers Beat Redskins
27-12
A big win for the Steelers as
they beat RG3 and the Washington Redskins.
Dick LeBeau's Defense came through to control the Skins running game
and RG3.
The defense as a who played well and Keenan Lewis is getting better
with each game.
On offense Jonathan Dwyer had
his second 100 yard game rushing, maybe its not too late to trade
Mendenhall to a team like Phoenix for future draft picks.
Big Ben is having his best year and offensive line is starting to
come together, even Mike Adams is getting the job done.
Week 8 Regular Season
The Steelers should get some of
the injured players back, especially Pouncey. This week the
defense better get some younger and faster players on the field as
they face RG3 and the Reskins.
Steelers Beat Bengals 24-17
A big win for the Steelers as
they get past the Bengals. Jonathan Dwyer rushed for over 100
yards and Chris Rainey scored a rushing touchdown.
Ike Taylor bounced back with a
good game and Lemarr Wodley had an interception.
Week 7 Regular Season
Five Steelers won't dress for
the Bengals game. Besides Troy, Mendenhall & Redmen will
sit this one out along with OT Marcus Gilbert and reserve linebacker
Chris Carter. Jonathan Dwyer & Mike Adams will get their
first Nfl starts.
Alameda Ta'amu has been
suspended without pay for 2 games by the Steelers. Corbin
Bryant has replaced Ta'amu on the active roster.
Wesleye Saunders has been cut by
the Steelers. Rookie David Paulson has come on strong and
there is no reason to keep Saunders.
Alameda Ta'amu the guy who was supposed to
replace Casey Hampton has been arrested on multiple felony charges
including DUI and attempting to run over police officers. This
was really stupid on this guys part, his Nfl career is done, he
should get 10-20 years in prison for trying to run over police
officers. Let this be a lesson to thhe rest of the team, if
you are going out to a bar have a designated driver who is at least
40 years old and someone close to yoor size who can keep you out of
trouble.
Steelers Lose To The Titans
26-23
Is it time to press the panic
button, YES, the Steelers lost to a bad Tennessee Titans team who
were using a 37 year old QB.
The defense could not stop the run or the pass. Ike Taylor had
a horrible game with a number of penalties and was beaten quite a
few times. Lawrence Timmons, Larry Foote, Ryan Clark &
Keenan Lewis all played well. We did have 3 sacks but none by
defensive lineman.
On offense the big problem was injuries. Rashard Mendenhall
& Issac Redman both went down with leg injuries as did lineman
Maurkice Pouncey & Marcus Gilbert. Mike Wallace caught an
82 yard pass for a touchdown and Health Miller had a good game,
starting to worry about Antonio Brown & Jericho Cotchery, both
seem a little off the past two weeks. Baron Batch came in to
play running back and did good considering he is a 7th round pick
and mainly a special teams player. Let's hope none of these
injuries are real bad, Doug Legursky played well filling in for
Pouncey.
Week 6 Regular Season
The Steelers are on a short week
with a game Thursday night against the Tennessee Titans.
The Steelers will be without Troy and Lamarr Woodley who had a
hamstring injury.
Steelers Beat Eagles 16-14
Welcome back Rashard Mendenhall
as he scored the Steelers only TD on a screen pass and had 81 yards
rushing, this helped the Steelers to even their record at 2-2.
The defense was improved with the addition of James Harrison but
Troy Polamalu was injured in the first quarter and did not
return. Ben was not real sharp and Antonio Brown and Mike
Wallace just played average.
Week 5 Regular Season
Expect Troy Polamalu & Rashard Mendenhall back
in the lineup for the Philadelphia game.
Please pray for Chuck Pagano, head coach of the
Indy Colts who is battling Leukemia. Bruce Arians will be the
interim coach.
James Harrison should start for the Steelers but
won't play the whole game.
Week 4 Regular Season
Bye
Steelers Lose To Oakland
34-31
This is a game the Steelers should have won but
the Defense had a really poor performance.
Ryan Mundy, Casey Hampton, Brett Kiesel all had
real bad games.
Hood & Heyward look like free agents instead
of first round picks.
On offense Antonio Brown had his worst game ever
with 2 fumbles.
Big Ben, Heath Miller & Mike Wallace all
played really well.
Week 3 Regular Season
Lawrence Timmons fined $21,000
for helmet to helmet hit on Mark Sanchez.
James Harrison & Troy Polamalu won't play
against the Raiders
Steelers Beat The Jets
27-10
The Steelers looked good
especially in the second half as they beat the New York Jets
27-10. Ben Roethlisberger was sharp as he hit Mike Wallace
& Heath Miller for TD Passes. The running game was still
terrible, Issac Redman had his worst game ever. The Defense
was very good in the second half keeping the Jets off the
board. The Steelers are now in a three way tie for the
division lead as Baltimore lost and Cincy won.
Week 2 Regular Season
James Harrison & Troy Polamalu won't play
against the Jets.
Steelers Lose To The Broncos
31-19
The Steelers looked pretty good
until mid way through the 4th quarter when Big Ben threw a pick 6
that shattered any hope of a comeback.
The running game was non
existent and the offensive line was fair at best, only Max Starks
did well. Gilbert and Foster went down with injuries and the
line actually played better without them. Mike Adams did not
have a great game but this was the best game for him so far.
The wide receivers & Heath
Miller all looked great. Leonard Pope is worthless, he can't
catch the ball and he can't block either. The Steelers should
cut Pope & the Fullback Johnson and get 2 additional offensive
lineman, maybe have Legursky play fullback in short yardage.
On defense Larry Foote and
Lawrence Timmons played pretty well. The defensive line was ok
but Casey Hampton played way too much, he should only be in there
10-15 plays a game.
Ryan Mundy is a fine backup but
he is no Ryan Clark. Troy seems to be slowing down some and
not making good decisions like he used to.
It was nice to see Jason Worlids
make a sack on Manning.
The next game vs the Jets could
be another loss, never thought the Jets would score 48 points.
Week 1 Regular Season
Injury Updates
Baron Batch & James Harrison
Did Not Practice on Thursday, Mendenhall, Redman & Worlids all
had Full Participation in Practice on Thursday.
With the Steelers playing in
Denver Sunday Night that means Ryan Clark will not play. Ryan
Mundy is ready to go and so is Mike Wallace.
Former Cleveland Browns owner
Art Modell passed away, he was 87.
Practice Squad Players Announced
W
The Steelers signed 8 players to
their practice squad including John Malecki, Damon Cromartie Smith,
Josh Victorian and others
Steelers reduce roster to 53
There were no huge surprises on
cut down day, Veteran offensive lineman Trai Essex and Jeremy
Kapinos the punter were the main 2 cuts along with Cromartie Smith
the safety, all the others were rookies or second year players who
were not expected to make the team.
Steelers vs Carolina
Pre-Season Game 4
Steelers edge Panthers 17-16
In a game that the Steelers
dominated they beat Carolina by just 1 point when Carolina elected
to go for a two point conversion.
Charlie Batch started and looked
good as he hit Emanuel Sanders for a touchdown in the first quarter.
Chris Rainey ran back two punts
for touchdowns but both were called back because of penalities.
Wesley Saunders caught a Johnson
pass in the second half for a touchdown.
3rd round pick Sean Spence was
seriously hurt and will be out the entire season.
Week 4 Pre-Season
Issac Redman and Brett Kiesel
will like miss the final pre-season game with injuries.
David DeCastro most likely won't
go on the Injured Reserve list, more will be known after surgery is
performed.
Jason Worlids & James
Harrison are off the PUP list and expected to play vs the Denver
Broncos in week 1.
Mike Wallace signed his one year
tender and will start to practice on Friday.
The only cuts that made any
impact were Linebacker Morty Ivy and PlaceKicker Daniel Hrappmann
Steelers vs Bills
Pre-Season Game 3
Steelers squash the Bills
38-7
It took a little time for the
Steelers to get on track but once they did they scored often.
The running game was weak and the
offensive line was just average but Max Starks looked real good at
left tackle. Marcus Gilbert on the other hand played lousy as
did Willie Colon. Ramon Foster replace an injured David
DeCastro at Right Guard and played well. Ben was on target and
Antonio Brown continues to amaze at wide receiver.
Byron Leftwich played well
throwing two touchdown passes and Chris Rainey had a long run from
scrimmage for a touchdown.
On Defense Ziggy Hood looked
recovering a fumble and Troy and Rookie Robert Golden had
interceptions, lets hope Golden makes the team. Cortez Allen
looks real impressive, with we could say the same for Curtis
Brown. Adrain Robinson continues to impress but it looks like
he will be a practice squad player.
Week 3 Pre-Season
Steelers fire Special Teams Coach
Al Everest, Amos Jones will replace him.
Mike Wallace is expected to join
the Steelers late in the week ending his holdout.
Steelers vs Colts
Pre-Season Game 2
Steelers Edge Colts 26-24
The Steelers looked good in their
second pre-season game by making 3 interceptions and Antonio Brown
catching a 57 yard pass for a touchdown.
The first team offense looked good
Ben moving the ball and Jonathan Dwyer running hard. Ben did
throw an interception.
Andrew Luck looked good despite
throwing two interceptions. Ike Taylor took the first one to
the house. Cortez Allen continues to impress and does Josh
Vicorian who had an interception late in the game.
Morty Ivy looked good on defense
and blocked a punt. Adrian Robinson continues to look good.
Fourth team QB Johnson also looked
good.
Mike Adams had a horrible game, if
he wasn't a second round pick he would get cut. John Malecki
and Ryan Lee looked good.
Week 2 Pre-Season
Linebackers Adrian Robinson &
Morty Ivy have a chance to show what they can do against the Colts
Sunday.
John Clay has been waived injured
and the Steelers have signed RB Jason Ford.
James Harrison has had a setback,
he had arthroscopy surgery on his left knee Wednesday. It is
doubtful he will be ready to play the opener in Denver.
Injuries continue as Issac Redman
& Jonathan Dwyer probably will miss Sunday's game against the
Colts. John Clay also got injured this past Saturday, his
status is uncertain.
Here is the way the offensive line
will look for Sunday
Gilbert LT
Colon LG Pouncey C
DeCastro RG Foster RT
Andrew Luck looked impressive
against the Rams, lets see how he does this Sunday vs the Steelers
Defense.
Steelers vs Eagles
Pre-Season Game 1
Steelers lose 24-23
The Steelers dominated in the
first half with first and second team players. Big Ben looked
good along with running back Issac Redman and first team receivers
Antonio Brown & Emmanuel Sanders.
Byron Leftwich connected with
Emmanuel Sanders for a short TD pass and rookie sensation Chris
Rainey ran 57 yards with a screen pass for a TD.
The two rookie offensive lineman
were a bust. Mike Adams game up sacks and was injured
recovering a fumble. David DeCastro looked more like a 5th
round pick not a 1st round pick.
It would not surprise us if Starks & Foster were in the starting
lineup the first week.
David Johnson & Jonathan Dwyer
both had good nights but both got injured, Johnson is done for the
whole year.
The 4th team QB Johnson was
horrible, he should be one of the first cut. Offensive Linemen
Kyle Jolly & Kelvin Beachum were also horrible.
On Defense Steve McLendon had a
real good game including a sack. Rookie Sean Spence was ok and
Adrian Robinson had a great game with pressure on the QB all second
half.
Curtis Brown had a real bad game,
Cornerback Josh Victorian nearly incepted a pass in which he would
have taken to the house but he could not hold on to it. Free
safety Robert Golden looked good and showed he is a sure tackler
with speed, he also did fine on special teams.
The Steelers better get a veteran
fullback if they hope to have a successful running attack.
Baron Batch was the leading ball carrier but he was not impressive,
probably a practice squad candidate.
Four former players retire as
Steelers, Aaron Smith, Joey Porter, Willie Parker and Marvel Smith
have all retired as Steelers.
Willie Colon is injured and is
doubtful for Thrursday Nights game against the Eagles.
Ben Roethlisberger has slight tear
in his rotator cuff and a sore ankle after another player tramped on
it.
Pittsburgh Steelers Dermonti
Dawson and Jack Butler have been inducted into the Pro Football Hall
Of Fame in Canton Ohio.
The Steelers have signed wide out
sensation Antonio Brown to a six year $42.5 million dollar contract.
Running backs coach Kirby Wilson
is happy to be back with the Steelers after he was seriously burned
in a fire in January.
Mike Wallace is a no show at
training camp and the Steelers suspend contract negotiations with
him until he signs his one year tender.
Coach Mike Tomlin gets a 3 year
contract extension, this takes him through the 2016 season.
The Steelers Top pick David
DeCastro signs a four year deal worth close to 8 million dollars.
The Steelers have re-signed
veteran offensive tackle Max Starks. This is a wise move
because there are doubts about second round draft choice Mike Adams
being ready to start at left tackle.
QB Troy Smith has been released
from the active roster.
Former Steelers LB Clark Haggans
has been arrested for DUI, he served his 48 hours in prison.
Ben Roethlisberger and his wife
are expecting a baby
